The Airbus A320neo aircraft is the first one in the purchase order of 50 aircraft signed between the carrier and Airbus in 2018, according to statement on the company’s website.
After arriving in Vietnam, Bamboo Airways’ new aircraft will operate green flights with the reduction of single-use plastic products.
The air carrier aims at becoming the first green airline in Vietnam to minimize single-use plastic on all flights from November 1.
The narrow-body aircraft produces 10% emissions less than those with the same size. Compared to previous generations, it can reduce 5,000 tons of emissions a year.
FLC Group’s Bamboo Airways currently operates with 10 hired aircraft and expects to receive two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner planes in 2020.
From the end of 2019, the airline's fleet is expected to reach 30 aircraft, with the goal of having 100 aircraft by 2024.
Bamboo Airways currently operates on 28 domestic and international routes, and is expected to expand the network to 37-40 routes by the end of 2019, including international routes to South Korea and Taiwan (China) and Southeast Asia.
The airline plans to be the first Vietnamese operator to launch direct flights to the United States from Vietnam.
Last month it revealed a plan to raise around $100 million from a proposed initial public offering in 2020.
Vietnam’s aviation market has recorded double-digit annual growth over the past 10 years, making it one of the fastest growing markets in the world. The country’s airports served 106 million passengers in 2018, up 13% from a year ago.
